What is Local Pack?
Google Local Pack / Map Pack
Definition
The Local Pack (or Map Pack) is the block of three Google Business Profile listings with a map that Google shows for searches with local intent — like "dentist near me" or "web design company in Delhi". Ranking in this top 3 usually drives more calls than ranking #1 in the normal results below it.
Google fills the pack using three factors: relevance (does your profile match the search), distance (how close you are to the searcher), and prominence (reviews, ratings, citations, links). Your Google Business Profile — categories, services, photos, posts, review velocity and replies — is the main lever you control.
Below the pack sit the traditional organic results, so local businesses effectively compete on two boards at once. The pack converts better for "call now" intent; organic supports research intent.
Example
A search for "marriage hall in Garhwa" shows three venues on a map before any website. The venue with 150 reviews at 4.8★, weekly photos and complete service listings takes the top spot — and most of the calls — even if a competitor's website ranks first organically.
Why it matters
For restaurants, clinics, salons, venues and every "near me" business, the pack is where the customer decides. Most never scroll past it.
Fully complete your Google Business Profile, pick precise categories, add services and photos, post regularly, collect reviews steadily and reply to them, and keep your name-address-phone consistent across the web. Then build local landing pages so Google can verify relevance.
